Hello, I'm new to the forum and quite new to the field of geomatics. I see that many of you have been working in the field for many years. What is the difference between the terms 'Surveying' and 'Geomatics'? I keep hearing that surveying is a dying profession and I would like to hear your inputs. Should I quickly look for a backup plan or perhaps the future of geomatics is a optimistic one. Thank you all.

My understanding is that survey is a subset of geomatics. Geomatics deal with all dimensional as well as other attributes of the are while survey is just limited to dimensional.
If you measure and level the land, it is survey. If you also record the population, number of trees with their productivity and type etc, it becomes larger and belongs to superset--geomatics. Ciao.
